How to build a ‘reproductive clinic’ at a University of Alberta facility

A university research centre has developed a mobile clinic that can be used by women with infertility to access medical assistance, such as contraception and fertility treatment.
The mobile clinic is being tested at the university’s Reproductive Health Clinic at the College of Family Physicians.
“It’s really a mobile fertility clinic where you can actually walk in and get treatment and get some assistance in getting a medical device to the right place,” said Susan Dickey, an assistant professor of obstetrics and gynecology and reproductive health at the University of Calgary’s Faculty of Medicine.
“And so, you can do a little bit of testing on the device and it will tell you what’s the best place for you to have it.
And then you can just use that device and get on with your life.”
Dickey’s clinic is part of a larger research project by the University to better understand fertility issues and to develop treatments.
The research project is also aimed at improving access to contraception.
A new mobile fertility device can be implanted in a woman’s uterus at a nearby reproductive health clinic.
Reproductive health clinic in Calgary Reproductive healthcare is a top priority at the college.
Dr. Susan Dickson says she wants to increase access to reproductive healthcare at the Calgary campus.
She says the mobile reproductive clinic is a first step in that direction.
Reproduction is one of the top three causes of infertility in women.
But for many, infertility is the result of other health issues such as diabetes and high blood pressure.
Dickey says the clinic will be a test bed for future research.
“This is really just the beginning, and we’re going to build this in the future to see if we can really use it for some of these other things as well,” she said.
“So, we’ve got a lot of potential there.”
Dickson said the clinic is still in the early stages of testing and testing will continue to be limited to women who are pregnant.
But the clinic has already had positive responses from women who have been tested and their fertility rates have improved.
Dickson hopes the mobile fertility tool will help women who need help with their fertility.
“You can get it, you know, right here in your home and it’s really, really easy to use, you don’t have to go out and do it yourself, and it doesn’t cost you anything,” she added.
“We think that this is going to help a lot more women than we can imagine.”
The mobile fertility system is being used to help women in need.
Reproductive Health Clinic is part-funded by the Alberta Human Services and Child Development Department.
It is located in the College Of Family Physicians’ Reproductive Healthcare Clinic.
