“You’re going to find out that there’s a huge number of individuals that are at risk for infertility, depression, and suicidal ideation,” she says.
“And the vast majority of those individuals don’t want to be pregnant, they just want to have sex.”
So how do you get them to take that leap of faith?
The Baystate reproductive health team has two main approaches.
One is to offer a wide variety of therapies and interventions, with an emphasis on sex education and awareness, so that patients don’t feel overwhelmed by the need to decide if they want to become parents.
The other is to give them a prescription.
When you’re dealing with a large group of people who are going through a difficult time and you’re having this difficult conversation with them, you want to give people information about what you know to be working.
But you also want to make sure that they know that they can still get the best outcomes.
The first approach is the more traditional one: a consultation.
The second approach is one that’s been around for a while, but the Baystate team is using it to its advantage.
“The big difference between us and other providers is that we offer a prescription,” Dr. Cottrell says.
That means you go in and give them your prescription and you have the information you need to make the right decision.
This is a key point, since many women feel like they’re not getting enough information about sex, including what to do if they don’t find a provider.
If you want your prescription filled before you do, you have to fill it within a few days, but there are also options to skip that step, if you’re not in a hurry.
The Baystons is using this as an opportunity to give women more options for contraception.
If they’re interested in having a vasectomy or a tubal ligation, they can get those appointments without a prescription at a discount, they said.
The group also offers information about safe sex and contraceptive methods, and the Baystoms is giving them more information about them.
“We are educating them on what to expect during sex,” Dr, Cottrel says.

The goal of this program is to educate women about the science of sex and contraception, and about the importance of taking their own health into consideration.
Baystate is also working with other reproductive health organizations around the state, including the National Women’s Health Network and the National Institute of Reproductive and Reproductive Disease Prevention.
These groups are working together to develop information and resources that can be used by women, who can get referrals from other reproductive healthcare providers and have their sexual health care covered by insurance.
“You don’t have to wait for them to come to you,” Dr Cottrell says.
She says they want women to be able to get tested, and if necessary, they need to use the Bay Stons website to get an appointment to have a test done.
“They’re not going to get a free test, but they can receive the test at no cost,” she said.
